Eurasia as a new Strategic Security Hub

Eurasia is no longer a peripheral stage but a laboratory for both cooperative and competitive geopolitics. Its emerging security architecture is layered, locally driven, and increasingly autonomous. For the West, this represents both a challenge and an opportunity: containment alone is insufficient. The critical question is whether global powers, including the United States, can adapt to multipolar realities and contribute to a more resilient and inclusive security order.

On the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Astana

The contours of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a Eurasian organisation were thus sharpened at the meeting in Astana. The summit could be the harbinger of significant geopolitical developments in Central Asia and Eurasia in the coming years. But the organisation also wants to play a greater role in global issues. Will strategic autonomy of the emerging middle powers succeed?

While emerging middle powers also represent a heterogeneous group in terms of their historic development, economic weight, and national interests, at present moment all of them are united by the desire to reform the existing framework of the global world order. Currently, there are several indications that they may succeed in this challenging endeavor. This text is featured in the second issue (November 2023) of the "State of the World" periodical published by InterRegional for Strategic Analysis (Abu Dhabi).

Cold War 2.0 and the future security architecture in Europe

When we build an architecture, we want to build something solid and sustainable that will last for a long time, where you can spend your own life and preferably still bequeath to children and grandchildren. An architecture must be based on a stable foundation! For it, it is necessary to think about how we design a global peace and security architecture that should primarily serve to secure peace. This short presentation took place on May 25, 2023 within the framework of the discussion series "Zeitenwende in der Sicherheitspolitik" at the University of Halle in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
